Who: Dean Nicholson What: London Bombings When: 7th July 2005 Where: London King's Cross station
What started as another day at work soon went out of the window. I remember getting the call over the radio that there had been reports of an explosion over at Liverpool street and that we (King's Cross Mainline) were now on alert.
Then It happened.
Met police were running a cordon across the front of our station and the LUL were evacuating. Within seconds I called my Security team together and we set up a cordon acroos our main concourse to assist the Met police. By now there were people appearing on our forecourt covered in soot, blood, and tears. We set up a first aid point inside the travel centre and started gathering our First aid supplies (which ran out within 5 minutes)Before we knew it we were being swamped with casualties, the memories still haunt me. Myself and the DSM went downstairs with supplies taken from nearby building sites as the situation was fast becoming a catastrophe.
I cried that night.
A year later at the remeberance day I received a thank you from a survivor. Two words that meant more than anything.
