Who: Me What: Worrying about my cousin When: 9.11.01 Where: Middle school
Like most people, I remember 9/11 pretty much like it was yesterday. I was in my 8th grade English class, doing a typical 8th grade English class assignment. About halfway through the class, the teacher told us what had happened at the World Trade Center. She had just read it in an e-mail from the administration (apparently, she wasn't supposed to tell us). The announcement was formally made on the loud speaker some twenty minutes later.
Many people didn't know what the World Trade Center was, being 8th graders. I did, however, as my cousin had worked there for some time. I hadn't been there, but I had seen them, had one of the towers pointed out to me as the great building my cousin worked in. I was really scared, there's no way around it. I felt like there was nothing I could do. I kept trying to call home and find out what was happening, but no one answered. I went hours without knowing anything. At one point, a kid at my lunch table told me she was probably dead. He was an asshole.
Immediately after lunch, I managed to get through to my mom. I found out nothing was wrong. My cousin didn't start work that early in the morning. She usually made it to the office around eleven or so. It was a relief, to say the least. A lot of innocent people died, but I'm glad to say she wasn't one of them.[[Category:Junior High]
