Let me start off by saying that I live very close to Midway Airport. So close in fact, the planes fly right overhead and shake my house. From June 1994 to September 2001, that had never bothered me. The planes would rumble, the windows would shake, I'd shrug and life went on.

Until the morning of September 11, 2001 at least. I was home from class (high school, junior year) and doing what I usually do when I'm at home: watching television. At about 7 or 7:30 in the morning a plane flew overhead just like it usually did but this time felt different. I became nervous and scared. I started to wonder what would happen if a plane were to crash into my home. Would I survive? What damage would be done? I had never felt like that before in my seven years of living at this residence but I actually started to fear for my life! The plane continued on its flight path and all was well again.

A news report broke in and I remember feeling aggravated because I didn't know how long the report would last and I wanted to see "Jerry Springer". I remember thinking, "Ok, fine, it's a fire in an office building. Hope nobody got hurt. Now can we PLEASE get back to regular programming?". Next thing I know, we were told that a plane crashed into a building and then I saw another plane hit the second tower. That was not my last premonition/funny feeling, but it was my first and one of the most memorable. I'm just sorry it had to come to pass.
