I remember when september 11 happened in Las Vegas. I was 17 and a freshman at UNLV. I woke up, and my roomate told me that a planes had hit the world trade center bringing both towers down. I had been there a month earlier, and knew first hand how big the buildings were in real life, so I thought he must have been mis informed. While walking to class though the atmosphere seemed really weird. It was overcast, but more than that it was quiet. Normally you could hear the constant air traffic of McCaran airport located next to campus. When I returned from class there was a TV in the lobby of our dorm building showing the unbelievable footage of the sept. 11 atacks. My other distinct memory of that day was walking on the Las Vegas Strip. There were no cars, and hardly anyone walking around. Also there was additional visible gaurds guarding the entrances of the casinos. And the large LED screens in front of each property showed a flag instead of the normal commercials for the hotel's shows and resturaunts. Aside from the immidiate tragedy, it was obvious that the las Vegas economically would be strongly hurt, as well as the working class households that worked and lived there.
