Who: Jeremy Kaufman What: Anti-Iraq War Protest When: September 24th, 2005 Where: Washington, DC
In September I went to the Iraq War protest at the National Mall. It was the first protest of any kind that I have been to, and it was a major event with over 100,000 people. I realized then why I wanted to go to school in Washington; I was a part of democracy in action in the nation’s capital. I heard Cindy Sheehan speak about the death of her son and of all of the soldiers killed in Iraq. For the first time I really considered and supported the immediate withdrawal of troops in a country that I never believed we should have invaded. It’s fair to say that the protest did inspire me enough to form this opinion by seeing thousands of people who hoped to bring young soldiers home safely.
