When: August of 2003
Where: Columbus Hospital

Late one august night of 2003, I lay in my bed half way asleep when I jumped of fright from the phone that had just rang. I hear soft footsteps coming down the hall. It was my mom going to answer the phone. Laying there in my warm bed, I wonder who’s on the phone and why they called so late at night and what they were saying. My mom screams and starts to laugh but it’s not like a normal laugh like something was funny it was more a happy laugh; my mom was excited I could tell. An hour had passed and my mom was still in the living room talking to whoever was on the other line. As much as I tried to go to sleep I could not keep my mind off of why my mom had been on the phone for so long especially because it was so late. I heard the receiver of the phone click down softy followed by my mom quietly walking back into her room. With my mind still wondering about the strange conversation last night, I, at last, got to sleep.

The next morning I woke with the sun in my face, and bounced out of bed still wondering about the mysterious phone call that my mom had got the night before. As I got out of bed my mom came up to me and said she had some great news. “This has to be about the phone call last night.” I told myself. She told me the news I had been waiting for what had seemed like my whole life. My Mom looked up at me and said that my new baby cousin was born late last night. I jump up with joy; I was so happy words could not describe it. I sat on my bed as my mom told me every thing about the phone call from the night before. I asked my mom when we could go and see my new baby cousin and my aunt. She told me we should let my aunt rest for a little while, and that we would call her in a little while and she what time we could visit her. A few hours past and my mom called the hospital to see what time visiting hours were over. My mom hung up the phone and told me to get my coat we were off to the hospital. The car ride was long and boring. but we did eventually get to the hospital

We arrived at the hospital and as fast as we could went up to the gift shop to get my aunt some balloons, and a stuffed bear so the baby would have something to play with. After my mom paid for the gifts we went up to my aunt’s room. I was in complete shock when I saw the baby for the first time. He had short little brown hair (he go that from his mom) and fat little fingers and feet. I could of ate him up he was so cute. “Would you like to hold him?” my aunt asked. I sat on the blue chair that was soft on my legs, as my mom handed my little cousin to me. His skin was soft on mine. “His name is Kholsyn.” my aunt said softly as I sat there holding him. I looked down into his face with his blue eyes looking back at me.

We stayed at the hospital till visiting hours were over then we had to say our goodbyes to the new addition of the family. Both my mom and aunt said I could come back any time I wanted to visit him and that he should be home in a few days. We left the room went home and I went to bed. Laying there, I thought “This is the best day of my life; the day Kholsyn was born.”
