December 23, 2005, was the day I escaped death. It was an average winter day for Wisconsin, bright sun with lots of snow. I was in Madison returning home after receiving my Christmas gift early, a new CD player for my '88 Honda Accord. Turning off the highway onto my one lane back road, I decided to have a little fun. I took the car for an imaginary high speed chase, taking each corner to their maximum capacity. That's when it happened, two inches of frosty white powder covered the road. I slam on the brakes, turning my car sideways. I try to correct, putting the drivers side door towards the road ahead.

Thinking my life is ending at 70 mph, I close my eyes, waiting for the darkness to stay, but it doesn't. I open my eyes to find myself hanging from my seatbelt, left side in the air. Broken glass, mud, and snow are all that occupy the inside. I push the door upwards, like an engineer coming out of a manhole. I notice a car driving down the road, and wave my arms to divert their attention. It's my brother. My little car is completly totaled, never to drive again. I luckily escaped with only a sore shoulder and a higher respect for snow. Now when I drive I try to go slow, and anticipate the unexpected.
