Who: Jared
What: Final Phish Tour
When: June 2004
Where: Keyspan Park, Coney Island NY

Phish had recently announced its final tour as a group (for the 2nd time mind you) and I was lucky enough to get tickets to the 2nd show of the tour. The concert was being held at Keyspan Park in Coney Island. Keyspan is a minor league baseball stadium where an affiliate of the New York Mets play.

I took the subway to the concert - it was a long trip from midtown NY to the end of the N line all the way in Coney Island. As I headed from the station I had to indulge myself in a Nathan's famous hot dog from the original shop near the boardwalk - man, it was just like I imagined!

For those people who haven't been to Phish shows...the outside of the venue is almost more interesting the the actual concert. Being a typical new york wall streeter, I tend to not fit in with the hippies and more liberal people who attend these shows. Nonetheless, I hung around a bit and made it through the line to get into the stadium.

I had field level seats (general admission) and found a great place in the outfield to watch the show. Just as Phish came on stage, I noticed a bit of a ruckus near us - a young girl was being carried out of the stadium, foaming at the mouth - an obvious victim of a drug overdose!

The show went on however and I must say - Phish put on an amazing performance. They played 2 great sets and a terrific encore. The highlight of the evening, was a 2 song interval in the middle where they had Jay-Z play with them! What a versatile group that can play jam band music as well as cover a popular rap song.

I must say - it was a great experience to see Phish on its final tour and I only wish they decide to reunite....again!
