Who: Zach Ulrich What: Black Tie and Boots Inaugural Ball When: November 2004 Where: Washington, DC
During November, 2004 I had the privilege of attending the inaugural Black Tie and Boots ball for President George W. Bush, with my girlfriend Ashley Wroten. The ball was simply amazing. From the moment people stepped into the hotel they were greeted by endless streams of party favors and opportunities, ranging from free (nice) picture frames to picture signings with former astronauts, and chances to win free cars made especially for the occasion. Over the course of the night we got to pet Bevo the University of Texas mascot, some armadillos and even meet Texas Senator John Cornyn; later we took pictures with cardboard cutouts of Mr. and Mrs. Bush (pretty funny) and everyone got to take home some ten gallon hats.
The food was awesome, and the people were even better. It was really fun seeing all of the young and old “money” walking around; many people were familiar from television, books, etc. and it was truly an opportunity to enjoy one of life’s great celebrations. The Black Tie and Boots Ball was undoubtedly the best place to be on the in the country, probably the world, the night we were there!
Several rooms made up the ball. They ranged from a dancing area with multiple stages, to an area with booths selling and giving away free foods and wares, to a ballroom where many prominent politicians (including the President himself) made speeches to everyone via broadcasts on flat-panel screens throughout the hotel. We enjoyed the ball for several hours and had an amazing night that I will never forget.
