MLK Assassination, April 4, 1968, by Lynn Forbing
From MemoryArchive
Who: Lynn Forbing What: The assassination of Martin Luther King When: April 4, 1968 Where: Chicago
I attended an inner city high school on the west side of Chicago. Austin had about 4000 students, about 60 percent African American and 40 percent white. The day following Dr. King's murder, a friend quietly suggested that I might want to leave school property. There was trouble brewing. I left the school and walked several blocks to my Father's church (he was the pastor). I told him we were expecting trouble at school. My Dad sent me home and he immediately walked back to the school to offer assistance and guidance. By the time he arrived, the building was nearly on lockdown because of the riot. Just the beginning of the troubles in the 60's!.
