My First Job, 2005, by Nick Hanson

Who: Nick Hanson What: When I Got My First Job When: Summer of 05' Where: Edgerton, WI
My friends and I were taking about what we are going to do for money. In the summer of 05’. I mention that I was going to look for a job in Edgerton, WI (where I live). My friend Josh said that he was going to try to work for his dad’s company. This girl named Jondell said that her mom was a substitute for this waitress at a local diner. I was like “that’s cool,” “I guess I’m going to get a job there,” said Jondell.
The next day... In L.A. class the teacher was telling us our assignment. The assignment was we had to write 3 letters to a future job. I reached over and told Jondell that I was going to write to that diner where she worked. “Well, cool, you and me might work together,” said Jondell. I was thinking to myself if I got hired at the diner with Jondell, that would be weird.
I got a phone call the next week asking if I would like to come in for an interview. I told the owner that it would be really great. The next day after school I walked down there from my school (two blocks away). Jody Hinton (the boss/cook) hired me, and told me that I started next Saturday.
The next day Jondell came up to me and told me that she got fired from the diner. I said that I just got hired yesterday, and I start next Saturday. I felt so sorry for taking her job, I said to myself. I asked her if she was mad, and can we still be friends. She told me she wasn’t mad at all because she was going to quit next week anyways.
After getting the job as a waiter my family and friends think that I have matured a lot more, and that I have become more responsible. At first working the boss yelled a lot at me. I thought and thought about quitting, but I couldn’t. I have been working for the diner in Edgerton, WI for about a year and a half. This memory is special to me because my friend and I were going for the same job. So she and I will always remember that summer.
