I was nine years old and living in Rosemount, Montreal, Quebec. Father had a new car. We were going to New York to see the world’s fair. New York State had built new highways from the Quebec border for all us Canadians to travel to the Fair. I remember seeing sign’s saying if your car could not reach speeds of 40 miles per hour, DO NOT USE THIS HIGHWAY. How times have changed. All the newest technology of the time was showcased. My biggest impression was going into a room which was darkened and we watched this big black box and people performing on it. It was TELEVISION and soon everyone would be able to buy one. Well it was 1939, the September of that year England and Canada had to fight in the second world war and all the technology was for the new planes, guns and tanks. Thank God we won and now we are distressed again, with all the changes in the world. Some are for the best. It would be nice if humans could treat others humanely. From Pat Haley Hool.
