Who: Ashley Wroten What: Papal Audience with Pope Benedict XVI When: May 2005 Where: Vatican CityThe summer of 2005 was the first summer as Pope for Benedict XVI. I happened to be in Rome for that particular summer, and decided to attend the Wednesday Papal Audience in St. Peter's Square. I went with my family's guide, Gabrielle, who got us perfect seats. When Pope Benedict XVI rode by in the popemobile (which has been redone since the days of Pope John Paul--it is open-air now!) I could have literally reached out my hand and touched him, but I refrained from doing so. It was an incredible experience sitting in St. Peter's sqaure with thousands of Italian school children who were chanting, "Ben-e-de-tto!" to their newly beloved Pope. Everyone literally treated him like a rock star!
The Pope's linguistic abilities were the most amazing to me. He gave the entire mass 7 times, each time in a different language! The man is absolutely unbelievable. And I am not even Catholic!
