The task of memory upgrade is not at all hard to do. In fact, it is one of the easiest and one of the cost-effective ways to improve the performance of one’s computer. But still, many computer users stay away from upgrading their computers because of some reasons like their lack of knowledge, some warranty issues, concerns regarding compatibility, and the fear of spoiling their machine.
Upgrading laptop memory or mac memory is easy. The first step would to know your RAM or random access memory. RAM is simply what your computer use in order to run an application or a data on your computer. Most computer users really research before they try to upgrade their computer systems. This is to make sure that they will have a perfectly matching motherboard, CPU, and video card combination to meet their needs. However, most of them failed when it comes to RAM. All they know about RAM is the size but not about DDRs.
DDR or Double Data Rate is a memory technology evolution based on SDRAM. Its access is twice as fast as SDRAM for data transfer occurs on both the edges of the clock.
DDR2 memory is the second generation of DDR memory. DDR2 memory is different from DDR1 for it can not be used on computer systems that don’t come with this technology. In terms of speed, it begins with 400MHZ in speed level as the lowest available but it is the highest speed available for DDR1. It picks up where the DDR1 leaves off. As for guide, Windows Vista will really eat your first 1GB therefore you need a minimum of 2GB DDR2 memory.
Lastly, DDR3 is the third generation of the DDR memory. It begins with 800Mbps, the lowest capacity level and goes up to 1600Mbps. The major benefit of getting a DDR3 memory is a higher performance with lower consumption of power. This is because the operating voltage is only about 1.5V as compared to 1.8V for the DDR@. And because it generates lower heat that means that the system will run cooler as compared to the others.
