Twitter is a great way to keep up with all the news and commentary you need in a format that goes with you anywhere and takes little time to read. You can keep up with news on the go by following the tweets of public figures. It’s great for the people doing the tweeting too. Even if a public figure can’t take the time to do an interview or write a blog; they (or their designated rep) can tweet about matters as they happen. No matter your subject of interest, there’s someone tweeting about it. Politics is certainly a topic of much tweeting, and you can find straight news as well as commentary from every political perspective. Here are ten tweeters you should be following for keeping up with what’s going on in politics. See if your favorites are here.
- Instapundit – This tweeter will bombard you with tweets about politics, but they’re all relevant.
- Tweet Congress – This one follows congressional tweets. And, you can sort by name, party, etc, so you get only the ones you want.
- Barack Obama – The president’s tweeter keeps fans appraised of his schedule and agenda as well as his initiatives and objectives. It’s worth following simply because he’s the first president we’ve ever been able to follow on Twitter.
- Glenn Greenwald from Salon.com – Greenwald is one of Salon.com’s most popular commentators. His tweets are right on the spot for what’s going on each day in the political world.
- Anderson Cooper- Cooper is a reporter for CNN who tweets about news and politics. He keeps up with what’s going on in today’s news and tweets it regularly. He also lets you know who he’s currently interviewing so you can be sure to tune in if you’re interested.
- Patrick Ruffini – For politics from a conservative perspective, check out Ruffini’s tweets. He was once the eCampaign director for the Republican National Committee and now runs his own political website.
- Mike Allen – He is the chief political correspondent for “Politico” and a former Time Magazine employee. He keeps up with all the political news.
- Mark Knoller – Knoller is the chief political correspondent for CBS News. His tweets follow goings on at the White House, primarily.
- Tweeting Politicians – This site gets you the tweets from all the politicians who participate. You can sort it by just the ones you want to see. It helps you follow more people more easily.
- John Stossel – Stossel, from ABC News, is a vocal Libertarian. He gives some pretty good insight into politics and has some interesting viewpoints.
If you don’t see your favorite politician, blogger or news analyst on this list; don’t assume they don’t tweet. Most public figures, including those in politics, have a Twitter account. So, go looking for your favorites. It’s a great way to keep up with all that’s going on in the political world in snippets that you actually have time to read.
